Oh, Christmas Tree

Our Christmas Bash

We're so very grown up…

On The Beach - 1998

I've been putting the scanner through its paces again, this time scanning some film I shot on the beach in Suffolk around October 1998. Here's Mum & Dad, enjoying the, uh, "bracing" conditions:

And I do love the quality of light, and the almost painterly placement of people, in this one:

The Lights Go On...

A Moment of Magic

Sometimes something happens to spark off that Christmas feeling, even in the most difficult of times. As I was walking home from my Christmas bash last night, I came across these carols singers in Trafalgar Square. And finally, it felt like Christmas.

Rurally Retreating Again

I'm back in Suffolk again, providing Mum with some support before she goes into hospital again next week. Luckily my sister-in-law is handling all that, leaving me free to work and head to Le Web 3 in Paris.

But now the French are having a strike. On the day I'll be travelling home. Oh, joy.

Flooded Back Passage

Ah, the trials of living in a Victorian-era building on a Victorian-era street that took some serious abuse during World War II. Thanks to the Luftwaffe, the drains in my part of Lewisham are less than robust. And, every now and then they block up, back up and flood my back passage.

What fun!

Re: Blogging

So, life.

I must getting better at posting to my blogs. I must get better at posting to my blogs.

It's a function of being a "professional" blog advisor, I suppose. I spend too long talking about blogs, and too little time doing it these days. That's sorta counter-productive, though. Becoming all mouth and no blog trousers, as it were, isn't going to do me, or the people I'm working with, any good at all.

So, I must reform. I must end my ways. I must put finger to keyboard and blog with strength and confidence, as once I blogged in the past.

It's a new week. It's a new start. Here we go.

Oh, and here are some pics of my collegues:

Office life is so dynamic, isn't it?

Liking Leopard

So, my copy of the new version of Mac OSX called Leopard (or, rather more prosaically, Mac OSX 10.5) arrived yesterday afternoon, at some point before I dragged myself out of my sickbed and into the office. I hesitated for all of about 30 seconds before installing it. (This seems to be the major difference between Mac and PC users right now - PC users are holding off from installing Vista for as long as possible, Mac users get Leopard on their machines the first moment they can).

It too about an hour, once I'd rebooted, I discovered thet the line "add a new Mac to you Mac" isn't just advertsiing puff - it genuinely does feel like a new machine. The visual aesthetic of the new OS is markedly different from previous interations, giving the interface a new, pleasingly solid feel. CoverFlow for documents is just terrific, and Quicklook (whereby you can hit the space bar while selecting a document, and open a detailed preview without having to open the actual application) is shaping up to be one of those "how did I live without it?" features.

And, most importantly, World of Warcraft runs just fine.

All good, so far.

Sojourn in Sunderland

We're up in Sunderland for the weekend, to attend a christening of the son of an old friend of Lorna's. Tonight we're enjoying the hotel and stressing over the rugby…
